Hello Judith and all list members down under,
Regarding choice of optics the following list was to be found in the Finnish
bird magazine Alula after they did comprehensive tests on the leading
scopes.
All the best,
Eddie Chapman. Voss, Norway.

There was a discussion here a short while back about the merits of the
Pentax 80mm ED scope and scopes in general. The current issue of the usually
reliable Alula magazine (1/2002, www.alula.fi) has a comparative review of
seven leading 80mm scopes (all tested with zooms) and ranks them as follows:

 1st Zeiss Diascope 85 FL;

equal 2nd: Kowa 823M, Nikon Fieldscope ED78A, Swarovski AT80HD;

 5th Leica Apo-Televid

6th Falco Kite SP 80ED/Kamakura (whatever that is!)

7th Pentax PF80ED
