I have only made three comments on Birding-aus about the new Game Bill. I
have made quite a few off line. The message from Marilyn Davis that had the
subject line "Hunting Heroes. Thanks Terry Pacey!!" is the last straw. I
apologise in advance to those I may upset and am prepared to be crucified by
some, but I think it is time the record was set straight.
I will start with what is obvious to anyone who reads messages before they
start replying. I DO NOT SUPPORT THE GAME BILL. I have said that in my
postings. I am not a hunter. I do not own a firearm. I support the gun
control laws. I WILL NOT BE MANIPULATED BY POLITICAL PARTIES.
My original posting was made AFTER I had read the Bill in FULL. I did not
read to Clause 8 and then stop. I read the whole Bill. It was obvious from
what I read that some of the concerns being raised were ill conceived if not
maliciously untrue. To further clarify the situation, I contacted the
relevant department to check the current status of the Bill. I reported
this on Birding-aus. For this, I was thanked by a member of the hunting
group. I find it remarkable that NOONE else commented on the update. I
told Mark Kliene that I thought his remarks were inflammatory and have asked
for a public apology from Marilyn Davis. There has been no time for either
of these people to reply before this message. I informed Ian May
(privately) of some of the facts and have had a reply from him. We have not
resorted to guns at ten paces. Any repartee between Laurie Knight and
myself over this matter is simply a continuation of Laurie and my exchanges
on many matters.
I make no apology for using FACTS rather than rumour or one politician's
version of things. I find it remarkable that lots of those in this group
are not prepared to look at the facts. I might also add that I do NOT live
in NSW and so the proposed Bill hardly affects me at all.
I concluded my email to Marilyn Davis with the following words. I feel they
are appropriate again.
I have made my opposition to the proposed Bill both public and to the people
responsible for introducing it. Have you done as much?
