I have never hit a crake (that I know of) but my only Owlet Nightjar was seen in the headlights just before it smashed into the bonnet of the car on the Pacific Motorway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Then there was the Barn Owl that neatly removed my car aerial and the wedge-tailed Eagle that didn't quite make it and the ........ When trimming the grass growing on our footpath in Toowoomba, I looked down to find a freshly dead Emerald Dove in the gutter. I still don't know if a car hit it or it flew into the high kerb. There were no marks on it at all. Come to think about it, I may have killed more birds than I have seen.
