Australia's floral emblem is Acacia pycantha, commonly known as
Australian golden wattle.  At the turn of the century there was some
intense competition between the wattle and the Waratah.  Acacia pycantha
grows in drier areas of NSW Vic and SA.  The Wattle League was formed in
1911 in Melbourne to support the case for the Wattle as our floral
