Hello all
probably not a good subject line since there's not a great deal of
news up here at the moment. Rain has come at last after almost
the driest January in Darwin's recorded history, and the unusually
dry swamps have started to fill again.
Darwin sewage works isn't too bad at the moment, with lots of
ducks (mainly Wandering and Plumed Whistling-Ducks) hanging
around rather late, presumably due to the dry weather. There are
also four Little Ringed Plovers (had up to 7 last Wet Season), a few
Yellow Wagtails and more Whiskered Terns than I've seen before
at this time of year. There was a Black Bittern in the drain just
outside the gate the other day as well. No sign of Red-rumped
Swallows yet, though I'm still hopeful the ones seen at Newcastle
Waters near Tennant Creek will show up here. I'm hopeful too that
a nice raft of gulls will turn up like they have in Broome!
