Seasonal avian greetings to you all,

Driving last week from Adelaide to Brisbane I went through Broken Hill,
Cunnamulla etc to try and see a few new birds.

Stopped at the abandoned Pyampa H.S. where I didn't see Grey Grasswren but
there was a lone Freckled Duck in the bore/dam and a White Wagtail there too.

I first flushed the wagtail without seeing it but knew from the flight call
that it was a Motacilla wagtail.

Eventually flushed it again hearing the call and seeing it fly into the
distance, so unfortunately the only view was in flight from underneath. It
displayed the characteristic dipping wagtail flight, v. long tail, distinctive
call, white underneath (with no traces of yellow), black breast-band. Doesn't
rule out Black-backed I guess but certainly not Grey or Yellow.

(I've lived in Middle East for 3 years and Europe for 2 and seen bucketloads of
Motacillas)

Hall's Babblers were nice near Eulo + Chestnut-breasted Quail-thrush,
Gibberbirds, Dotterel and all the rest on the way..... Grey Grasswrens wait for
next time.

All the best

Philip Griffin
