G'day to All,

This past weekend was the annual BOCA challenge bird count was held. The
Cohuna team from Nth Victoria, consisting of John Nankervis, Geoff Leslie,
Bob Wheeler, Simon Starr, John Popel, Betty Waterson, Norma Sheridan, Mavis
Skinner, Michael & Sharon O'Brien & Lydia & Chris Coleborn, spent Saturday
searching for birds within a 40km radius of Cohuna. Highlights for the area
were at least 3 PAINTED HONEYEATERS in the Terrick Terrick NP, 2 AUSTRALIAN
PRATINCOLES near Pyramid Hill and 5 FRECKLED DUCKS at Johnson's Swamp. It
was a great day enjoyed by all, and we totalled about 161 species seen. We
failed to pick up several species that are fairly common to the area, (it
happens all the time, doesn't it?) such as Brown-headed Honeyeater. Twice I
had a red face by calling out fledging Black-chinned Honeyeaters for that
"on the day" elusive species. There were many breeding records - more than
normal for this time of the year. No doubt it was because of the late spring
weather conditions we have been enjoying.

The full species list is below.

Regards,

Chris Coleborn
