Keeping your bins in your top pocket is a good idea but If they are too
large and heavy to fit, as are mine, I have just remembered a most useful
tip I learned when I used to go bushwalking in South Africa. Firstly wear
the straps short then tie a piece of elastic 1/2 cm wide and long enough to
go around your back. Attach the ends to the barrels of the bins. This
holds them close to you and yet allows you stretch for them to be lifted
quickly to your eyes. Also prevents your knockers from being knocked!
Cheers.

" having long binocular straps is
seen as very nerdy indeed in ornithological circles. Serious birders
wear their binoculars high on the chest so they can
grab them faster when an important bird comes into sight.
As a bushwalker, I can say that the correct length for the straps is the
length that allows the nockers to sit in the chest pocket. "
