One of the other differences between rogaining and orienteering (or so I have been told as I am way to unfit to run around in the bush for up to 24 hours) is that there is no set route. Coordinates are provided for a number of waypoints with points allocated to each one. The more difficult to access the point (distance, etc,), the more points are involved. Therefore you may visit less stations than other contestants, but travelled longer distances and got more points. They are usually held in fairly rough country, often with thick bush.
Cheers,
Peter

Rogaining is the sport of long distance cross-country navigation. The
championship rogaine is of twenty four hours duration, but there are several
shorter variants
