Subject: Cuckoos in Vic.
Re Lawrie's note about cuckoos in Victoria at the moment.
My recent experince of cuckoos in Victoria has been from box-ironbark habitats,
especially near Seymour (80k north of Melbourne) and at Chiltern (270k to the
At both localities, Fan-tailed cuckoos outnumbered observations of Pallid and
bronze-cuckoos by at least 2:1 I'd say. This was in the last two weeks.
Interestingly, the FT Cuckoos seemed to generate a bit more angst from the
honeyeaters and other small birds when they arrived. Has anyone else noticed
which cuckoos elicit the most alarm calls and chasing?
