Eden (NSW) Pelagic Report. Sunday September 30, 2001
Information supplied by David Webb.

Weather started out clear and fine 10-15 kt wind from the NE
strengthening as the day progressed to 20-30 Kts becoming heavily
overcast c20C. Seas to 1m inshore rising to 2.5-3.5m offshore.
Uncomfortable for some from mid morning on with two falling to
seasickness.

Sailed at 08 00 heading ENE, 20 or so Wedge-tailed Shearwaters followed
us out. Passed many groups of Short-tailed Shearwaters heading south,
and a group of Common Dolphins joined us for a short time, otherwise
little seen until we reached the 90 fathom mark just short of the shelf
break. Activity picked up here as we stopped to berley in a controlled
drift over the shelf (36 57 69S 150 17 94E) until gusty winds and rising
seas turned us around. Stopped agian briefly to berley (37 02 37S 150 14
03E) when a White-headed Petrel gave us the once over. Docked at 15 45
after having spent 15 minutes watching 2 Humpback Whales in the bay.

An interesting day with plenty to see, no great numbers or rarities.

On board: David Webb, Ian Bailey, John and Meg Gordon, Graham and Jenny
Greenwood, Ross Fackerell, Christine Proctor and family of four with new
skipper John Smith and decky Craig.
