I had the opportunity today to go to Newcastle and Kooragang Island in
the company of Grev and Margie Reidy to check out this bird.
Unfortunately we were unable to locate it. The only waders there were a
small group of Sharp Tailed Sandpipers (STS) and a Greenshank.
At Ash Island we also missed the Ruff, we saw a Curlew Sandpiper amongst
the STS, there were also quite a few Greenshanks, Marsh Sandpipers, 3
Red Kneed Dotterals, 1 Black Fronted Dotteral, only two Avocets, two
Eastern Curlews and one Gull Billed Tern. No Yellowlegs either.
Hopefully some of these rarities will re-show themselves.
Happy birding,
John Reidy
