My fault or yours or, most likely, a bit of both ?
I have NOT seen any "definite" Common Terns at Ricketts Point
this year.
Last Friday 12 "commic" Terns were present and on Saturday 5.
All those that I could get a proper look at were White-fronted
Terns, as were two seen by Mike Carter on Thursday.
Some looked very like non-breeding Common Terns (because of a
dark "shoulder") but all that I could check had the white
trailing edge to their primaries which means they had to be
White-fronted.
Incidentally on the Friday both Alex Farias and Moira Longden
were there too and, as I understand it, could identify only
White-fronted Terns.
Friday was warm and calm. 12 Black-winged Stilts standing in the
shallows as the water rose to their "knees" and 2 early (for
Ricketts Point) Red-necked Stints provided compensation for the
struggle of identifying the terns.
