Dear all,

Just for the record, I have looked extensively aroung the Melbourne RBG over the past few months, particularly in and around the large stand of bamboo at the northern (???) entrance recommended.  No sign of any bulbuls !  I too, would be very interested in any sightings.

Regards,

Paul

Tim Dolby asks about a possible 'epicentre' of distribution for the
Red-whiskered Bulbul in Victoria.

I've just checked the distribution map for this species in the Atlas of
Victorian Wildlife and it indicates the following:

- there are curently 37 records of the species for Victoria.  All but one from
suburban Melbourne.
- the species was regularly reported from the Melbourne Botanic Gardens until
1982 but there have been few records since 1983.
- there have been reports of probable escapees from aviaries (eg. Traralgon).
- records of the species were made during all seasons and no breeding has been
recorded.

The distribution map has an 'epicentre of distribution' of around Heidelberg-Box
Hill.

A bird I'd like to see.  Let us know if you see any, Melbourne birdos!
