Hi All,

Yesterday we did our weekly survey of the Caloundra sandbanks, SEQld, and
suddenly there are changes. We had six marked birds - 5 terns and one wader.

The wader was a Red Knot, unusual on the site. It was one of 5 Red Knot in
non-breeding plumage, and indicates waders on the move.

There were 4 banded Crested Terns, as well as our usual immature Caspian
Tern which was born in Victoria last summer. It is still seen begging from
an adult. The latter has remained in Caloundra during the winter, and we are
interested to see if it stays on or maybe returns to its birthplace. Another
Caspian born in the same batch has remained in Victoria during the winter.

Crested Terns are still mostly in non-breeding plumage, but yesterday we had
a couple showing early breeding plumage.

Cheers

Jill
