Like Anthea I've been delighted to see Gang-gang Cockatoos in my
local area this autumn. And it is clear from a number of
reports that they are around/flying over in unusual numbers
throughout eastern Melbourne.
Almost all the records I have from Bayside are from the autumn
(with a couple in January) but I have no record of them staying
in our area. However for a week now up to 10 have been on the
Brighton Golf Course, especially in the sugar(?) gums along
Creswick St. There have also been sightings from Elsternwick
and, possibly, Beaumaris.
Does anyone have an explanation? Good breeding success (only one
of the 10 is a mature male) - or logging.
