A couple of people have said that the bird I saw which looked like a
bristlebird was probably a juvenile whipbird, so that answers that
query. There have been no responses to my query about adult male
fairy-wrens acting as lookouts.
A comment about Michael Morcombe's book. I do find it useful as a backup to other field guides. I would not take it into the field (rather large and the layout a little cluttered for quick identification), but I identified a couple of birds from it when I got back to the house.
