Hi Everyone,
The Australian Special Interest Tours (ASIT) trip to the Hunter Valley (NSW) over the weekend  10-11 March 2001 was very successful. Some of those highlights, particularly for the NSW Birdline followers, were:

Two Hobbies, 2 Little Eagles & 2 Brown Falcons at Parramalong Swamp (formerly Pourmalong Swamp, formerly Cedar Hill Drive Swamp!!), Minmi on 10 March

Plenty of White-fronted Chats on Ash Island 10/3 but due to the presence of flood waters and a very high tide, waders were hard to find.

Brown Quail & Tawny Grassbirds in the Rainforest regeneration plot on Ash Island 10/3

Minimum of 6 White-winged Black Terns, many Common Terns and Little Terns in the entrance to Newcastle Harbour at the Nobbies Breakwater 11/3

On the Kooragang Island dykes at high tide seen from a cruise launch, were 12+ Great Knots most in breeding plumage; minimum of 130 Black-tailed Godwit, and a small numbers of Red Knots 11/3, large numbers of Eastern Curlew & Bar-tailed Godwit, while about 60 Whimbrel, mostly seen roosting in mangroves trees were also noted.

A Common Sandpiper and Mangrove Gerygones at the wreck at Stockton 10/3 and another Common Sandpiper on the dykes on 11/3

4 Caspian Terns and 3 Gull-billed Terns on the dykes 11/3

Late Koel at Fern Bay and a late Dollarbird at Fern Bay and at Seaham 11/3.

White-throated Needletails seen at Morisset, Fern Bay and Seaham 10-11/3

A presumed escapee pale-headed Rosella at Shortland WC on 10/3
