Subject: Lunctime birds - Melbourne
While getting out of the office at lunchtime today to warm the body up from an
over airconditioned city office, I took a walk in the adjacent Fitzroy Gardens.
The usual Blackbirds, Mudlarks and Common Mynahs were about.
This park has turned up a number of interesting birds over the years (Sacred
Kingfisher, Powerful Owl, Tawny Frogmouth, Australian Hobby , Kestrel and even a
Brown Songlark!).
Another species to add to that list was a small group (~6) of Dusky
Woodswallow's busily hawking between the trees near Albert Street. Possibly the
closest record of the species to Melbourne central business district in recent
years?
A wonderfully calming observation to settle the nerves before returning to work.
