Just to clarify my reference to the shooting of Bustards in the Top End. A brief summary of where it came from: During 1942-43 Bustards were reported as ?fairly common? in suitable areas and ?many thousands? were shot for food by troops stationed there. Reference: Rhodes, L. J. (1944). Birds of the Adelaide River District, Northern Territory. Emu 44: 87-93.
