Subject: Woodland bird news (Vic.)
Some news regarding the nomination of the
'Victorian temperate-woodland bird community'
under the Victorian Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988.
The Ministerial advisory committee (Scientific Advisory Committee) has recently
made a Final Recommendation to the Minister for Environment and Conservation
that this bird community be listed under the Act. The Minister will consider
the recommendation before publishing her decision.
The Commitee's recommendation was advertised in last Saturday's edition of the
Melbourne Age newspaper.
For those who do not know, this community contains the following
woodland-dependant taxa.
Apostlebird
Barking Owl
Black-chinned Honeyeater
Brown Treecreeper(sub-species victoriae)
Brown-headed Honeyeater
Bush Stone-curlew
Diamond Firetail
Fuscous Honeyeater
Grey-crowned Babbler
Ground Cuckoo-shrike
Hooded Robin
Jacky Winter
Little Lorikeet
Painted Button-quail
Painted Honeyeater
Red-capped Robin
Red-tailed Black-cockatoo
Speckled Warbler
Superb Parrot
Swift Parrot
Turquoise Parrot
Regent Honeyeater
Western Gerygone
Yellow-tufted Honeyeater (sub-species. meltoni)
Should the Minister accept the Committee's advice this will be the first
threatened bird community to be recognised across an entire landscape.

Preliminary Report.
