Hi Jenny and everyone

This is amazing news if correct! Certainly puts into a whole new context the occasional inland sightings reported from time to time (see for example Johnson, R. & Eddie, C. (2000). A Pied Heron at Roma, south central Queensland. Sunbird 30: 42-44.). The Macquarie Marshes are a very long way south, and inland,  of the most southerly reported breeding grounds in coastal north Queensland. Please let me know if the reports are confirmed.

Hi all

Reports to hand from the NPWS field officer in the Macquarie Marshes, at
least 6 pairs of Pied Herons are nesting in the Macquarie Marshes for the
first time this year with another 30 individuals sighted but not known if
breeding.  A good example of the importance of these wetlands for waterbird
breeding !
