Dear All, Last weekend a birder told me of a pair of probable Hooded Robins he
had just seen at Banyule Flat (Rosanna, Melbourne). He was familiar with
White-winged Trillers, and aware of the small breeding population of trillers at
Banyule Flat. He said these birds looked different (his description fitted
well: narrow white wingbar on male, grey female) and were behaving differently
(pouncing from young eucalypts to catch moths in long grass). We both looked
for them without success. It may well be worth looking out for these birds at
Banyule Flat or nearby areas: this would be an excellent local record if
confirmed (as the species has declined greatly in southern Victoria). Cheers,
Richard.
