There is no need for confusion. As far as this particular incident is
concerned, it is being looked at by our North Queensland Group (which is
appropriate since the contentious decision to issue permits was made by a
Queensland Government department under Queensland legislation and
guidelines), and you have probably seen posts from Jon Nott to Birding-Aus
about it. In future we expect that curent negotiations will lead to
applications for collecting birds for research in the region will be
notified to our NQ Group (and other concerned parties) for comment prior to
permits being issued.
As far as the wider issue of scientific collecting generally is concerned,
Birds Australia does have a formal policy, but this is currently under review.
