Landline-Newhaven Station

Hi everybody -

Just to add to the posted reminders about the reshowing of the ABC Landline
program about Gluepot and Newhaven on Sunday at 12:00...

Birds Australia has now finalised the purchase of Newhaven Station and is
putting together a management committee to oversee the establishment of the
reserve. A lot of things need to be done, including destocking the
property, surveying, mapping, signposting, building suitable accommodation
for rangers and some facilities for visitors, and much, much more. At
present it looks likely that the reserve will not be open to casual
visitors before Autumn 2002 at the earliest, but there will be
opportunities for keen volunteers willing to put in time and effort to help
out during the establishment phase. Already many people have been in touch
with us about this; if you want to be put on the interest list, please send
me a message giving contact details (including a postal address) and
mentioning any special skills or experience that you think may be useful.
The first meeting of the new management committee is likely to take place
at Newhaven sometime in March.

And a very big THANK YOU to all the generous people who supported the
appeal and ensured its success.

Cheers,
Hugo
