To Mike and other WTNT followers.
I saw just one Needletail at 7.15 pm on 16 January in Toolangi State
Forest, flying in a straight line very high above an area of wet forest
that has regrown after clearfelling in 1995. There may have been more
birds about, but my view of the sky was very limited at the time. It
was cool and calm with 20% thin cloud cover. I was at 37 31 34 S 145 30
On 18 Jan at 9.00 am there were about 50 Needletails circling over
old-growth wet forest in Yarra Ranges National Park near 37 40 24 S 145
45 53 E. It was cool and calm with about 80% cloud cover.
I saw a single Needletail on 22 Jan over wet forest that has regrown
since logging in 1989, then later saw a single bird flying in the
opposite direction, so it could of course be the same bird retracing its
flight. This was at 37 32 17 S 145 35 40 E. The time was between 3.00
and 3.30 pm and the afternoon was warm to hot and humid with no wind and
100% cloud cover.
