I write this hoping that Taronga Zoo might (not!!!) help clear up a mystery or in the hope that a birder in Sydney has seen an aberrant Brolga in the suburbs.

I received a call today saying that a Brolga was seen in Artarmon Reserve (sports oval with a narrow fringe of bush in suburban Sydney) about two weeks ago. I spoke to one of the birders who insisted that her husband, who was with her at the time, was familiar with Brolgas in the NT. She was also familiar with the White-faced Heron which can be seen in the reserve and stated that the bird seen was much larger than that.

If this was a misidentification then what was it?

If not have missed a 'huge' Sydney tick or has the zoo been missing a Brolga or two?
