G'day All.
If you read this you will know that I have made it
into "the group...My friend,Lizzy Lewis went for a drive to Lake Bonney..Barmera
the other day and looked at a Whistling Kite nest with two large
young..one of the adults arrived with a Common Bronzewing Pigeon, landed in
a nearby tree and plucked it,gave a call and took it to the nest and fed it to
the young....would it have caught the pigeon or was it a roadkill ?? The adult
bird then flew off and caught a young Pacific Blackduck which had just swum out
into the lake with it's "mum"and went through the same proceedure.Lizzy then
left the scene and came to visit me,bringing with her some of the Bronzewing's
feathers for an ID. One wonders just how much do these and other birds
consume in a lifetime..Doug Holly
