Hi Max

I guess one definitive source for at least half the job (passerines)
would be:

   * Schodde, R. & Mason, I.J. (1999).  The Directory of Australian
     Birds: Passerines.  (CSIRO Publishing: East Melbourne).  ISBN0 643

There are also the bird volumes of 'The Zoological Catalogue of
Australia' by Schodde & Mason, and the completed volumes of HANZAB.

Heavy going, fragmented too, but it's all in there.
