I can offer some advice however for those who find leeches a problem.

This may be a bit drastic, but while in Madagascar I found that wearing clothing that had been treated with permethrin (to avoid malaria mosquitoes) also kept me pretty much leech-free (my guide was covered with them by the end of one hike at Perinet, but I didn't get one).
