The Ostrich farm in question wouldn't happen to have a "holding area" for
emus in transit would it? Near where I live (Waikerie, SA) an abbatoir often
holds 100s of ostriches, emus, or deer in big yards awaiting their fate -
but some manage to get away regardless, and a few months ago a young deer
roamed our gardens & bushland.
Also, people who have emus in captivity that breed and don't know what to do
with the young often release them so it's not uncommon to see juvenile emus
roaming around in orchards around here.
