RFI - Binoculars

The time has finally come for me to replace my binoculars, and as much as I would like to buy a pair of Leica's from Birds Australia the budget doesn't stretch that far (plus I would be afraid to use them as they would probably suffer the fate of every other pair I have owned). I am able to spend up to around $1500 and I am trying to get information on what would be the best value for my money. Hopefully when the new birding shop comes online they will have a bit more info than the brochure, but is there anyone out there than can recommend/not recommend any particular brands/models. I am after the usual 10x42 sort of size. If you can reply direct to my address, rather than filling the coffers of Birding-Aus archives it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Peter
