For Sydneysiders or visitors to Sydney there is a very reliable and easy
Boobook Owl in the Cumberland State Forest, Castle Hill Road, West Pennant
Hills. Go to the Visitors' Centre, look for a sign to the Sensory Trail,
walk down the track until you come to a hairpin bend with a information sign
marked Palm Valley. Kneel down and look under the palm frons ahead of you
and voila! a cute little Boobook. The bird is much lower than you would
expect to see an owl. As you walk around the track it becomes at eye level
almost.
Take a tripod and remote cable for your camera. Flash will only make the
eyes bright red.

There are lots of other good birds in this park especially at this time of
year.
