The two best Mornington Peninsula (south of Melbourne) spots I know of are
Moorooduc Quarry and Baldry's Crossing. Have a look the BayBOCA outing
reports at http://www.cohsoft.com.au/bayboca/birdlists/index.html to get
some idea of species you can find at these and other Peninsula sites.
Target species I can think of at one particular site:
Great Crested Grebe at Devilbend Reservoir
Bell Miner at Moorooduc Quarry (you may find Varied Sitella and
Olive-backed Oriole as well)
