Today I visited Prospect Reservoir to have a look
at the Great Crested Grebes of which 15 were counted and excellent views were
had. I was pleasantly surprised when a flock of about 25 Topknot Pigeons flew
past, Edwin, have you recorded this species here before. Found a pair of
Crested Shrike-tits, 7 Musk lorikeets, a Leaden Flycatcher and several Scarlet
Honeyeaters. A pair of Eastern Yellow Robins were building a nest right next to
the loo at George Maunder Lookout, Upper Level.
This is the first time I have birded here and was
quit impressed with the area. Still some trees flowering but could only find
Wattlebirds and White-plumed honeyeaters.
I stopped at Mason Park, Homebush and found very
few birds here. Only 4 Golden plovers and 2 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers as well as
the usual Black-winged Stilts and Black-fronted Dotterels.
As I was leaving I heard a call from the
mangroves that I was unfamiliar with. Giving just a couple of squeaks produced a
Mangrove Gerygone, only the second time I have seen this species, made my
