Yes I have noticed this. There plumage is certainly rather a irridescent
black rather than just plain all black. I think several black birds have a
not so obvious at a fair distance  irridescent sheen on them - Koels,
Corvids, Spangled Drongo's etc. When one gets quite reasonably close and
with reasoanble sunlight on these birds, then they can see this.
