Hi John,

They have certainly been at Prospect for a few years and in addition there are birds probably resident in Ku-ring-gai Chase NP. These can often be heard calling, and occasionally seen, at Chiltern Trail, Ingleside 33°  39.93´   151°  15.61´

In June this year I was also surprised to hear one calling at Ebenezer a hamlet at the  north-western fringe of greater Sydney at 33°  29.295´   150°  53.555´.

Incidentally, yesterday I visited Katandra Bushland Sanctuary 33°  40.36´    151°  16.85´, at Mona Vale, bordering on Ingleside. Probably too late in the day for good birds, however did see Scarlet Honeyeaters and a Rose Robin. Of greater interest was the profusion of wildflowers; two of us identified in excess of 60 species of plant. This small reserve has some outstanding examples of Sydney's sandstone flora and now is the perfect time to visit. It is open on Sundays until the end of October.

It is at Lane Cove Rd., off Mona Vale Rd and entry is by $2 donation. It is open from 10.00 am 'til 4.00pm. It is not a long walk but if you are interested in Sydney's wildflowers it is probably worth taking a couple of hours. Lyrebirds nest in or near the rainforest gullies.

Nearby Chiltern Trail is also worth a visit for its wildflowers at the moment as well as for the Bar-shouldered and Peaceful Doves, both uncommon in coastal Sydney. Chestnut-rumped Heathwrens should also be calling now.

Regards, Andy

Hi all,
I was at Prospect Reservoir in Western Sydney yesterday and was suprised
to hear a Bar Shouldered Dove. I hadn't thought they were in the Sydney
area. I haven't been to this site before so they may well be resident
there.
Good birding,
John Reidy
