For anyone who is interested, there are sizable numbers of Double-banded Plover on Stockton Beach, north of Newcastle.  They are assembled near (just to the north of) an old shipwreck which is located a few km along the beach.  On the weekend there were 35 birds present, most in full breeding plumage.  Six Pacific Golden Plover were also in this area - the first returns for this species that we've had locally this season (and other wader species are starting to re-appear in the Hunter River).
