I too thought this but enquires (the results of which I previously put on
birding-aus) suggested this to be extremely unlikely.  Northern hemisphere
duck, with the exception of Mandarin Duck, are very rare, or more probably
non-existent, in Australian collections.  I know the duck enthusiast in
Taree and he does not have either Pintails or Northern Shovellers in this
collection.  

However, I do like the thought of all those twitchers making a pilgrimage to
see what could have turned out to be a glorified Muscovy.
