I went for another atlassing bushwalk in the Mcpherson Range [SEQ]
side. Came across some striated thornbills nest building, a rose robin
[somewhat less common than EY Robins round here] and up to a dozen
glossies tiredly making their way home from a hard day in the office
[none of the larking you'd expect from Gambolling John or Carnabys].
Anyhow, while I was finishing off my list for the day, I heard a
scolding rattle accompanied by a bit of grass waving in knee-thigh high
grass and bracken beside the road - about 70m from a creek. My attempts
at communication caused ongoing agitation, but the bird in question was
definitely the skulking type and steadfastly refused to hop up and have
a look at me. I simply got a brief glance or two of a bird that
appeared to have an eyeline and striations. I doubt it was a reed
warbler [because of the hint of striations and reed warblers tend to pop
up and fly a short distance].
The question is what sort of grassbird is it likely to have been?
