G'day all
I am interested in the claims last week from 2 correspondents that Australian
Ravens occur in the Melbourne suburbs - I've never recorded them here in 30
years of residence and bird noting. In my experience only Little Ravens inhabit
Melbourne. In Victoria, Aust Ravens are widespread in forest and mallee areas,
and in rural land with extensive remnant forest. They are nowhere common,
usually occurring as pairs, almost never in flocks and usually notably wary,
avoiding humans at all costs. [I am aware that Aust Ravens are the common urban
raven in Sydney and find that a most fascinating phenomenon]. Any records of
Australian Raven in Melbourne warrant careful documentation in the Victorian
Bird Report or similar.

I have just returned from a few days on Snake Island, Corner Inlet enjoying the
calls and sights of Forest Ravens, Hog Deer and being pee'd on by Koalas.

cheers
Peter
