Hi all

There have been some unwanted messages on this list lately. Please remember that PURELY commercial messages are not welcomed - i.e., if you want to advertise your business, do it via some other medium. Of course, if you are contributing to a discussion on birding-aus, and feel that your views might be deemed to suffer from a conflict of interest, etc, it may be best to declare it so that readers know where you are coming from. A number of people run not-for-profit tours, such as the boat trips, and messages about these are ALWAYS welcomed - they are an information service.

I don't have a problem with SMALL signatures (up to 4-5 lines, and NOT attachments) that give your email address, website etc - even if it is clear that this relates to a business like bird tours, ecotourism, accommodation etc. Many subscribers use email accounts at work, and as such have a sig inserted by their employer, so I don't see this as a problem.

There will always be grey areas - but basically we welcome messages that provide useful information to birdwatchers, naturalists, conservationists etc etc. If you are not sure about a message, please drop me a line. Thank you to all those who do this.

I've asked Phil Hansbro to send us some info on a project he is involved with in Ecuador. Whilst this may not fit under the manifesto of 'Australian birds, their habitat, et. al', I'm sure some of you will be interested, if not inspired by what he has to tell us.

Thanks

Russell
