Migratory Robins

Two Rose Robins at Abberton this-morning were the first here this year.

This is my second plea for comments from those with more regular experience
with red-breasted robins than I have, regarding the incidence of extensively
reddish-breasted female Red-capped Robins. Pizzey refers to coloured females
as occurring, but I'd like to know from those familiar with these birds
whether this is a regular, occasional or rare feature of female Red-capped
Robins.

I ask this because when we had a brilliant male Red-capped Robin here
recently, we also had another bird that I would have taken to be a female
Scarlet Robin, extensive red on the breast, large creamy-buff wing bars -
but at no time did I get a look at her frons. The birds were not especially
together, but they did turn up on the same morning - and they have both
moved on, by the way.

Any and all comments or observations would be welcomed.
