Today, whilst in the Hawkesbury area (about 55km west of Sydney CBD), noticed more waterbirds have moved in the area (particularly good numbers of Aust.Grebes, Darters, Sacred and Straw-necked Ibis and 4 species of white Egrets were also seen) than in previous months. About 50 Plumed Whistling-ducks were seen at their usual haunt beside the lagoon off Powells Lane at Richmond, with a single Pink-eared Duck and a few Australasian Shovelers. There was also a pair of adult White-bellied Sea-eagles in the sky above an a Brown Goshawk was calling and creating havoc to the waterbirds.

At Castlereagh NR, south of Windsor (approx 50km west of Sydney) a fair amount of bushland has been recently burnt, but many birds haved moved into these burnt areas including various Thornbills, Shining Bronze-cuckoo and Scarlet Robin. Saw a pair of both Brown Goshawks and Collared Sparrowhawks in the NR and saw 2 male Rose Robins (among several others about) quarrelling on the same branch of a paperbark. A few Mugga Ironbarks are in flower but have not noticed any honeyeaters feeding on them. A few weeks time though may bring some good results.

About 100 species seen/heard during the time spent in the Hawkesbury area.

Regards

Edwin
