I was most impressed by the informed email from Bob Inglis this morning on
Spangled Drongos in Redcliffe. That use of detailed longitudinal records is
superb and I am pleased that this forum allows it to be published, in the
public domain.
No doubt that information is stored in so many of our notebooks all over
Australia. Some of it is inaccessible, stored as it is within a host of
mouldy old diaries that we are frightened to open (I think mine are in this
category and one wet weekend I will make a start), some are in dBases that
can be accessed and used and most is not yet available to others.
The birding-aus forum has revolutionised communication and will no doubt
expand our understanding or birds and their behaviour/movements considerably
as we use these records more and more.
Well done Bob. You inspire me to one day make my own material more usable.
