Dear birding-aussers
Highlights of a weekend in the Sofala/Ilford area, camping out at the
Astronomers property, were
A pair of Grey Currawongs, observed very noisily peeling strips of bark off
gums in the late afternoon sun.
Lots of male and female Scarlet Robins.
Chestnut-rumped Heathwren in an area of high altitude cleared heathy-type
vegetation (also found another in the Capertee Valley at "site 10").
Red-browed Treecreepers in the adjacent regrowth woodland along with
White-throated TCs, and a pair of male Golden Whistlers in full adult
plumage having a singing match fluttering from tree to tree, puffing up
their feathers, flaunting themselves but one definitely had the better
vocabulary!
A Hobby flying fast through the top canopy.
And a very large Black Snake living in a nearby woodpile.
