Hi everyone,
I would just like to comment that I think Kookaburras are built to take a
fair bit of bill punishment. I was walking in Noosa NP (in the 80s) and
heard what sounded like someone hitting a tree with the back end of an axe.
I followed the noise and found a Kookaburra trying to knock a hole in an
arboreal termite nest (similar consistency to concrete probably). He was
flying at the nest repeatedly from about 5 metres and getting up quite a
bit of speed before banging into the nest. He continued this for 10 min+
with little success.
Best Wishes
John Boyce
