Hello All
What an hilarious topic for discussion! Reminds me of the time when
Birdchatters were discussing the case of a bird (male) seen attempting to
copulate with its dead mate!

Seriously, 'fetish' as a psychological term describes the use of a
non-sexual part of the body or an inanimate object for sexual
stimulation, often of an obsessive nature. The use of the term in this
article is just journalistic licence. As a musician for many years (I
began singing in nightclubs aged 13) I met all sorts of people, and while
none that I know of were birders, most were just like anyone else out of
working hours.

I don't think there is anything overtly psycho-sexual about birding or
hunting, any more than any other pursuit. While the scale differs
(depending on what is being hunted) similar skills are used for similar
outcome. But then again I shot buffalo in the late 1970's often tracking
wounded beasts on foot through 3m high speargrass. Even a sighting of
Red Goshawk over the backyard was not quite that heart-stopping!
