Hi Laurie,

        I reckon your Lyrebird was an Albert.  You would need to be well
down Stanthorpe way to get Superbs, and out of logrunner country I suggest.
Rainforest?  If so, definitely Albert.  All lyrebirds east and north of
Killarney are Alberts, if that helps.

The two species can be distinguished on the male breeding season song, but
the geographic variation within Superb song is greater than the least
difference in song between the two species.  The voice quality is sufficient
to distinguish them, but only if one is familiar with both species songs.

In the winter breeding season one can usually stalk the sound and find a
Superb's mound.  That is diagnostic.
