Hi Birding-aussers, probably lagging a bit here but have read with interest the mailing regarding Apostlebirds. Here in SEQ one would not expect to start seeing them, normally, until getting into the dryer country west of the Divide. However, recently there have been reports of a small (dwindling) group in the western suburbs of Brisbane, probably already finished off by cats! There is a population however slightly to the north around Samford Lagoon that has been around for several decades, in habitat that would appear to be atypical for Apostlebirds (humid, coastal).

I have recently seen this population(s) on several occasions, it appears to be thriving and would seem to involve more than one group (party) with obvious evidence of breeding. Does anyone have any history (apart from you, Tom Tarrant) on this population. At 27 22 52S/152 51 35E, this would appear to be easily the most easterly, sustained population in Australia. Cheers - Paul Walbridge.
